Bad news Marvel fans but it seems like Daredevil may not be sticking around for the post-Avengers: Secret Wars Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We have no idea whether or not he’ll fall victim to Doctor Doom or anything of the sort, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the third season of Daredevil: Born Again is set to be the last as Marvel has decided to part ways with the series show runner, Dario Scardapane. The decision to end the show came just a few months after production on the third season wrapped and Scardapane’s contract with Marvel came to an end. While Daredevil remained one of the few Marvel series on Disney+ that fan actually look forward to, it seems like the shot callers over at Marvel have decided to move on from the show and focus on whatever other projects they think will help boost the MCU’s upcoming Phase 7.
Per THR:
The parting of ways is eyebrow-raising as it means that Scardapane is exiting the show in the middle of post-production. It is unclear who will see the show through completion. One source said post-production is the final stages.
Marvel had no comment.
The series has focused on criminal kingpin Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) becoming mayor of New York and then targeting Daredevil and other vigilantes who are in his way. Season two, which ran in the spring, ended with Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox), being sent to prison.
Maybe the show depicting Kingpin as a Trumpian figure and his private police as ICE hit a little too close to home for some big wigs and rubbed certain people the wrong way. Just sayin.’
Though there was talk of Daredevil becoming an annual series and keeping the ground level MCU stories going for years to come, it seems like all that is out the window now. There are rumors of a Daredevil movie or the character simply becoming a tag-along character in future Spider-Man movies, a la The Punisher in Brand New Day, but only time will tell if that turns out to be the case.
Either way, this is a downhead.
