Rapper Lil Durk has been placed in solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, California, days before he’s set to have a bond hearing and shortly after he was acquitted in a murder-for-hire trial.
According to reporting from TMZ, Lil Durk was sent to the Special Housing Unit last Friday (October 30), which was confirmed by Bureau of Prisons secretary Jose Rojas for “talking back.”
Sources close to the situation said that Lil Durk’s cell was “constantly searched” since he was acquitted on September 11 on all five counts of stalking and murder-for-hire that he faced. When he asked prison guards about all the searches, Lil Durk was reprimanded and then placed in solitary confinement.
This is his second stint in the unit – his attorney, Christy O’Connor revealed in January that Lil Durk was given solitary confinement for over 130 days after an Apple Watch was found in his possession. He protested the conditions, with O’Connor arguing that “the deleterious effects of extended solitary confinement on an inmate’s psychological well-being are well-documented.”
Lil Durk, aka Durk Devontay Banks, was set to go before Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald on Wednesday (November 4). Sony has offered an appearance bond of $1 million, with the “Survived The Storm” rapper also offering touring income, publishing revenue and future royalties on his music as security against him violating the bond.
The rapper is set to go to trial on August 30, 2027 on a murder in aid of racketeering and a firearm offense. The court has already received letters of support from Jay-Z, J.Cole, Fanatics founder MIchael Rubin and former Illinois state attorney Kim Foxx.
Notably, the mother of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson also stated to the court that she wouldn’t object if the court decided to grant bond. Robinson was killed in the 2022 drive-by shooting at the Beverly Center mall, which Lil Durk had been alleged to be involved in before his acquittal.
