It’s almost time to return to the battlefield as we inch closer to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s launch date, and to keep the buzz going, Activision dropped a new trailer for the game’s campaign.
During Thursday Night Football, we got a propaganda-style trailer for Modern Warfare 4’s campaign, which will see all-out war break out on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea, which will have far-reaching implications globally.
The trailer opens as a North Korean-style propaganda film, then quickly cuts to brief glimpses of the invasion that a young squad of South Korean soldiers must fight through and survive as the situation rapidly deteriorates around them.
Call of Duty has always been a video game franchise unafraid to tackle touchy global subjects, and that continues to be the case with Modern Warfare 4, which continues that tradition with its take on the tense situation between North and South Korea.
Per Activision:
Set against longstanding tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the story feels ripped from the headlines as decades of geopolitical conflict come to a head. What begins as an invasion of the South quickly escalates into a global threat, pushing the Modern Warfare story into darker and more dangerous territory than ever before.
The Modern Warfare series has never shied away from controversial subject matter, and Modern Warfare 4 continues that tradition with a new setting, putting players directly on the ground as the war begins.
Before the release of this new trailer, Activision / Infinity Ward also announced a multiplayer mode called Collateral, which fans of Counter-Strike and Valorant will be very familiar with.
We can’t wait to go boots on the ground in Modern Warfare 4 when the game launches on October 23.
