San Francisco police have arrested Shakia Vanderbilt, 32, in connection with the fatal shooting of Ulysses “Bear” Davis, a security guard who was working at the Warfield Theater during an event for the reality television show “Baddies.”
Davis, 47, was reportedly helping fellow security staff escort a “rowdy” woman out of the theater around 1 a.m. when the woman allegedly shot him in the back, KTVU reports.
Police have not released details about what led to the shooting. Investigators are also examining whether the theater had the proper permits to host the event.
“We understand that there was an event that was occurring,” San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Rueca told KTVU. “Part of our investigation is to make sure that business was allowed to hold that event, if they do have the proper permits and were operating it according to the permit restrictions.”
Video reportedly captured the chaotic aftermath, showing someone being rushed on a stretcher to an ambulance as panicked attendees fled the scene.
Davis leaves behind a wife and six children. Two of his children reportedly witnessed the shooting, his brother-in-law, Terrance Cooper, told KTVU.
Davis grew up in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood and was remembered by loved ones as someone who would go out of his way to help others.
“Bear would give you the shirt off his back,” Cooper said. “If you ever called him and you needed him, he was always there.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine whether any additional charges may be warranted.
