The Trump administration is such a mess that when a White House official floats the idea of rapper Nicki Minaj becoming the next White House Press Secretary, America doesn’t know if they’re joking or not.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung apparently decided the best way to spend a flight aboard Air Force One was to conduct a mock job interview with Minaj, asking the rapper about President Donald Trump before suggesting she could replace the administration’s press secretary.

Cheung shared a two-minute video Sunday showing himself interviewing Minaj as they traveled to Michigan, where she was scheduled to join Trump at a campaign rally ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

And not everyone was sure he was joking.

Minaj quote-posted the video with an American flag and a grinning face with sweat emoji. The White House responded with 👀, while Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz asked the Barbz what they thought about their favorite rapper taking a job that requires answering questions about the president’s daily shenanigans.

No appointment was announced, but apparently the White House has decided running the country and auditioning celebrities can happen at the same time.

During the staged interview, Minaj praised Trump’s business experience, arguing that his personal financial struggles prepared him to manage the nation’s finances. She also complimented his international negotiations and work ethic.

“He outworks people that are half his age,” Minaj said, according to Mediaite.

Because nothing says economic expertise like a man whose business career includes multiple bankruptcies. Minaj also encouraged Trump supporters not to get discouraged by polling figures Cheung characterized as unreliable, invoking Hillary Clinton’s election experience.

In other words, it was less a job interview and more a campaign commercial featuring a celebrity guest.

The timing is particularly ridiculous because the press secretary position recently became vacant. Trump appointed Katie Zacharia on Oct. 9, and she began work three days later, succeeding Karoline Leavitt, who left in August.

Zacharia’s tenure lasted just five days. Her only White House press briefing lasted about 14 minutes and drew questions from three reporters, according to the Associated Press.

The Pepperdine University law school graduate also faced scrutiny after admitting she hadn’t passed the California bar exam, despite previously describing herself as a lawyer.

On Oct. 16, Reuters reported, citing two U.S. officials, that she had been fired.

Now Minaj is apparently in the mix. At this point, the White House press secretary job needs a casting director, not a résumé, and a “beautiful ass.”
