Thanks to data centers, RAM has become so scarce that it’s literally jacking up the price of electronics. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman added insult to injury by suggesting it’s “terrible” for people to have RAM in their gaming PCs.

In an interview with YouTuber Chinky Pint, the billionaire bozo touched on the global compute shortage the AI industry is currently facing. The conversation shifted to memory, and that’s where things got ridiculous, as he suggested the “invisible hand” is failing, hilariously blaming DRAM wafers for not going directly to data centers.

“From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer, and being used maybe 5% of the time,” Altman said. “Like, you want maximum utilization in the cloud if you’re trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment. And somehow many people’s intuition is the opposite of that.”

Sam Altman Doesn’t Seem to Be Concerned With Consumers Suffering

Altman’s selfish thinking works for him because he needs as many data centers operational as possible to speed up his AI models. But regular consumers are suffering because nearly all consumer electronics need RAM, and the shortage is why gaming console prices have skyrocketed. It will cost you some serious coins to build a gaming rig.

Thanks to the ongoing RAMpocalypse, you will be hard-pressed to find a PS5 Pro to take full advantage of GTA 6. If you do manage to come across one, you will be paying well above the ridiculously high asking price of $899.

Altman firmly believes the future is in cloud-based AI models and sees the shortages as a way to ensure data centers and AI companies keep gobbling up memory, making our lives a living hell by wasting our resources and making our favorite electronics too damn expensive.

Social Media Is Clowing Sam Altman Following His Comments

As you can imagine, Altman’s comments are not going over well on social media.

“Sam Altman is laying the ground work to take away everyone’s computers so he can use the RAM to build more data centers. Someday soon folks are going to wish they had listened to the socialists instead of these psychotic tech billionaires,” one post on X (formerly Twitter) read.

Another post read, “You can’t hate Sam Altman enough. He has no remorse of what he’s done to the consumer market.”
